FEMININE BLESSINGS

We count our friends, our money, our shoes, our gray hairs, and sometimes we count our blessings. At times, we sit alone and reflect upon what is important and what really matters in life. It seems to be that many things in life can be added to one of two columns: time or money. Many of us count our blessings when we have enough time or money to do what is required or desired.

You can count your blessings if you have all of the time in the world to take care of all that needs to be done. Also, count your blessings if you have all of the money in the world to afford everything you will ever need or want.

At some point in life, time and money may not be a factor. Someone could offer you an abundance of both, but neither would suffice. Imagine you're at a pivotal time in life where the most valuable thing in the world for you would be to know that you are healthy and strong -- mentally, physically and spiritually.  Your mental, physical and spiritual strength can save your life.

Over the holidays, I received a letter from cousin-in-law (Nancy) who shared a very poignant story.  Her journey touched me and was a great example of inspiration, perseverance, buoyancy, and blessings. As I envisioned Nancy tackling her illness as vigorously as she has handled other things in life, I imagined her narrative could be inspirational for so many others. My cousin gave me permission to use her letter with the hopes of sharing her blessings to help others.

One of the greatest lessons and joys I felt when reading Nancy's letter was to realize that time,  money and other things we value won't seem to matter on a journey like this. She did the remarkable thing that many of us don’t do in life -- she lived each day like it had meaning!

I am not downplaying Nancy's breast cancer survival, but I am emphasizing how important her positive attitude, her physical stamina, her mental will power, and her spiritual dedication were in her survival. As you read her story, you will see that good friends, family, a good medical team, and healthy foods also played a big part in her survival.

Please read *“Reflections of Blessings: Embarking on My Breast Cancer Journey” by Nancy Hughes. If her story inspires or touches you, please share your thoughts. If you have your own journey that may be an inspiration to others, please consider sharing it in the Feminine Blessings section.
